Buy a “How Would Jesus Vote?” Button

I am appalled that so many people who proudly declare themselves “Christians” are supporting Donald J. Trump for President of the United States. How can a follower of Jesus possibly vote for a lying, hateful, profane, cheating, unqualified egomaniac in preference to a woman with a long résumé of public service, both foreign and domestic?

There are several explanations, of course. Supporters may have a very different understanding of Jesus and Christianity. Or they may so angry at the “establishment” that they simply want to throw a symbolic bomb into the governmental works. Or—to be charitable about the matter—perhaps they have simply not thought about voting in the context of their Christian duty.

To reach those Christian Trump supporters whose mind might be susceptible to change, I created the design below.

Notice that the design is related to the usual Democratic Party logo. This is not by accident, though the design does not otherwise suggest that Jesus would vote Democratic. (Yeah, yeah, I know that Jesus probably wouldn’t vote. But, as Christians, I believe we have an obligation to help make our country as humane as possible.)

I have had a number of buttons with this logo manufactured. (See picture below.)

I have vowed to wear one of these buttons every day up to election day. It can be something of a conversation-starter. I do not volunteer my own answer unless the person I’m talking to indicates a preference for Hillary Clinton. Interestingly, Trump supporters sometimes immediately begin to defend their choice, probably because they realize, subconsciously, that their answer is the wrong one.

My stock of buttons is limited, and, when they’re gone, they’re gone. While they are available, however, you can have one for $6, postpaid. I’m not making money on this project—postage is surprisingly expensive—but I think it would be helpful for more people to be wearing these buttons.
