Trump’s Triumphal Arch Raises Its Ugly Head

NPR reported this morning that the Trump administration is expected to break ground on its colossal triumphal arch within the next two weeks. This Trump vanity project has not gone through all the steps required by law to initiate such a project. One would especially like to know where the money for this monstrosity is coming from. But Trump, who, like all presidents, has sworn to uphold the Constitution, has a habit of ignoring the law and essentially saying to the country, “Sue me.” (There already is at least one lawsuit attempting to derail this ill-conceived project.) Alas, the judiciary never seems to act as quickly as the president, and the Supreme Court always—nearly always, anyway—seems to side with our lawless president.

Under the circumstances, this seems a good time to post links to what I have written previously about Trump’s triumphal arch. Not being a resident of the District of Columbia, some of the aesthetic and, I daresay, spiritual objections advanced by others are ones I don’t feel competent to articulate. Nonetheless, my objections to the arch are substantial and, I think, commonsensical.

We should all write to our members of Congress urging them to kill this stupid and wasteful project before it gets so far along that the administration can argue that it is too late to halt construction.
