Thought for August 1, 2011

Reflecting on the debt ceiling sellout:

Why bother to elect a Democratic president if he’s going to implement Republican policies?

  1. A million or so years ago, when we were undergrads, I was in political science. This for younger readers was before the bachelors degree was turned into a vocational certificate but I digress.

I learned and it is still true, that the constitution is not in fact a blueprint for a system of three equally powerful branches. It is a weak executive, strong legislature system.

I suspect Mr. Obama would agree of a morning.

  2. I too am frustrated but I think the old saying "beggars can't be choosers" may apply here. President Obama is pretty much our only choice versus the tea party radicals. It's him or them. At least we have 2 excellent Supreme Court appointees (can you imagine who the tea party would have appointed) and at least some version of national healthcare.
